She Peeled Every Banana Before Weighing Them… Then the Cashier Did Something That Made the Whole Store Laugh

by Admin

An elderly woman was doing her grocery shopping when she stopped in front of the fruit section and spotted a large bunch of perfectly ripe bananas.

She picked them up, checked the price, and noticed that the bananas were sold by weight.

She stared at the bananas for a moment.

Then she looked at the price again.

Suddenly, a clever little idea popped into her head.

“I don’t eat the peels,” she thought. “So why should I pay for them?”

Feeling rather proud of herself, she began peeling the bananas right there in the produce section.

One banana.

Then another.

And another.

She carefully placed all the peeled bananas into a clean produce bag while leaving the peels in a neat pile beside her.

A man choosing apples nearby stopped and stared.

Another shopper walked past, then turned around just to make sure she had really seen what she thought she had seen.

But the old woman didn’t seem embarrassed at all.

When she finished peeling the entire bunch, she lifted the bag and smiled.

“Much lighter,” she whispered happily.

Certain that she had discovered the perfect money-saving trick, she placed the bag in her cart and headed toward the checkout.

When it was her turn, she placed her bread, milk, vegetables, a carton of eggs, and several other groceries on the counter.

Then came the bag of completely peeled bananas.

The cashier picked it up.

She looked at the bananas.

Then at the old woman.

Then back at the bananas.

“Ma’am… are these bananas?”

“Of course they are,” the woman replied.

The cashier looked around.

“Where are the peels?”

“I left them over there.”

The cashier blinked.

“You peeled them before bringing them to the register?”

The old woman smiled proudly.

“Well, I’m not going to eat the peels. Why should I pay for something I’m going to throw away?”

The cashier stared at her for a few seconds.

Several customers waiting in line had already started listening to the conversation.

Everyone expected the cashier to explain how produce pricing worked.

But instead, the cashier smiled.

She said nothing.

She reached for the carton of eggs in the old woman’s groceries.

She took out one egg.

Crack!

The old woman’s eyes widened.

The cashier cracked the egg into a clean container and placed the empty shell aside.

Then she picked up another egg.

Crack!

And another.

Crack!

The old woman finally leaned over the counter.

“What on earth are you doing to my eggs?”

The cashier calmly held up an empty eggshell.

“Helping you save money, ma’am.”

The old woman looked confused.

The cashier continued, “You’re not going to eat the shells, are you?”

A man standing behind the woman immediately burst out laughing.

Another customer covered her mouth, trying not to laugh too loudly.

The old woman looked at the cracked eggs.

Then she looked at the cashier.

Everyone waited for her reaction.

Surely, they thought, she had finally realized how strange her banana trick was.

But the old woman wasn’t ready to surrender.

She slowly folded her arms.

“Fine,” she said.

The cashier raised an eyebrow.

The old woman pointed toward the carton of milk sitting on the counter.

“Then you’d better take the milk out of that carton too. I’m certainly not drinking the cardboard.”

The customers in line erupted with laughter.

The cashier froze for a second.

Before she could answer, the old woman pointed at a bottle of water.

“And empty that one while you’re at it. I only want the water. I have no intention of eating the bottle.”

The man behind her was now laughing so hard he had to turn away.

The cashier tried to keep a straight face.

Then she picked up a box of cookies.

“What about this?”

The old woman looked at the box seriously.

After thinking for a second, she nodded.

“Open it.”

That was enough.

The cashier burst out laughing.

The customers behind them laughed even harder.

Even the old woman finally started laughing at the ridiculous situation she had created.

She shook her head and said, “All right, all right. Maybe I’ll pay for the banana peels after all.”

Then she looked at the broken eggs.

“But now I suppose I’m having scrambled eggs for dinner.”

And that made the entire checkout line laugh all over again.
